Trinny and Susannah, where art thou?

This October, i’m being taken clothes shopping by a good friend of mine. Now some of you may look at me with raised eyebrows about this, and walk away from me with a limp wrist, but the fact is I have no decent clothes at all in my wardrobe.

The reason is my lack of interest in clothes. I see clothes as a basic necessity, not a luxury, so I don’t spend much money on them. I see a T-shirt for £30, I think “sod that”, and buy one for a tenner instead. And then spend the rest of the money on something else (namely games and films). So at the moment I have a fairly empty wardrobe, with clothes mostly from Tesco. Comfortable, but as stylish and cool as a Vauxhall Nova. However maybe because I am growing up a bit (ha!) I’m now looking at my current clothes and actually feeling a bit frustrated at how unstylish they are. I now do the very feminine thing of going through the entire wardrobe before I go out, trying on different things, seeing which stuff looks good on me. Not good.

So that’s why this planned shopping trip with a very well-dressed homosexual friend will be great. I plan to save about £300, which will no doubt get me a pair of trousers, a hoodie and a T-shirt… maybe a hat if it’s in the sale. Also, i’m hoping these regular sessions at the gym will shrink me a clothes size or two. I’m sure larger people will agree with me here…clothes designers seem to think only skinny people have taste in clothes! You find a really nice shirt, and they only sell it in XS, S, M… and that’s it. And the only shirts they sell which are bigger than that you’d actually have to pay me to wear. Reminds me of Homer Simpson in the episode where he puts on weight, and wears that hideous floral thing. Yes i’m not skinny, but I also have some good taste. Get those yellow and brown chequered shirts made of flannel out of my sight.

The reason this whole thing has come to mind was because I spent quite some time this morning trying to find something to wear. We had family friends visiting who we’d not seen in many years. So I wanted to look nice. But my t-shirts were rubbish, two of my three shirts were in the wash, which left me with just the one shirt. Looks nice, and it was expensive, but I bought it last September when I was 80lbs heavier. Meaning I can now wrap it around both me and my brother Ross and still do it up. I wore it anyway though, is a nice visual demonstration at the huge effort I made to lose that weight.

But yeah, roll on October. To the friend I’m going with, if you read this, I’m looking forward to it so much. Your fashion sense had better still be amazing then! Haha <3
